Quality Lab tests offered at Natural Family Chiropractic:
- Vitamin D - (finger prick) The Vitamin D Test measures the amount of this important nutrient in your blood. Why Vitamin D is Important for Your Health? Vitamin D, like all nutrients, is essential for life. Our bodies need it from our environment (sunlight and food in this case) to function. It also plays an important role in building and maintaining strong bones. But that’s not all. Every cell in our body has receptors for vitamin D, meaning it can affect virtually everything that happens inside our cells. Research shows that people with higher blood levels of vitamin D live better for longer, with immune and cardiovascular systems that function better.
- Omega 3 regular and plus - (finger prick) The Omega-3 Index Plus Test measures fatty acid levels in the blood and reports omega-3, omega-6 and trans fat blood levels. Do you know your number? When you take an Omega-3 Index test it gives you a percentage, which is simply a measure of the amount of EPA and DHA in your blood. An Omega-3 Index of 8% or higher is ideal, the lowest risk zone.? However, most people hover around 6% or below. And unfortunately in the US, most people are at 4% or below—the highest risk zone.? Raising your Omega-3 Index to the desirable zone of 8% will help ensure you are getting enough of the right omega-3s—EPA and DHA—to protect your health.
- B12 - (urine capture) The Vitamin B12 test measures a substance called methylmalonic acid (MMA) in the urine, which is a specific indicator of low B12 status. The more MMA you have, the more likely you are to be low in this critical nutrient. Your Vitamin B12 test results are reported in specific units. The units are mmol MMA/mol creatinine (cr). Optimal vitamin B12 status is indicated when the result is below 2.0 mmol MMA/mol cr. A result above 3.8 mmol/mol cr means B12 status is very low and should be confirmed with further testing.
- A1c - (finger prick) The HbA1c Test measures the amount of sugar (glucose) in your blood. The Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) test measures the percentage of A1c hemoglobin proteins that have glucose attached. The higher your blood glucose is on average, the more glucose there is attached to the hemoglobin A1c protein. Your HbA1c level correlates to and reflects your average blood glucose over the past 3 months. A healthy HbA1c is below 5.7% and above 5.7% indicates chronic elevated glucose and warrants a discussion with a healthcare provider.
